This Friday: Mix It Up Media Opens

If you’re heading downtown for fireworks this Fourth of July weekend, make LAC your first stop. Our Mix It Up Media exhibition opens this Friday with a free reception from 5–7:30 PM — plenty of time to see the show, meet the artists, and still catch the fireworks.

Featuring the work of Elizabeth Brege, Jill Pierucci Bolakas, Elizabeth Farnsworth, and ceramic artist Nicole Burris, Mix It Up is a celebration of artists who refuse to be pinned to a single medium. Come see what happens when paint, clay, collage, and imagination share a room.

Members’ Gallery: Veronica DeLuze

The July Members’ Gallery wall belongs to Veronica DeLuze, alongside a rotating selection of works from our members. Best part? Everything in the Members’ Gallery is cash and carry, so come ready to find something you love and take it home that day.

Five Paintings Come Home

Last year, five works from LAC’s permanent collection were sent to a conservation lab in Richmond for a thorough professional cleaning. We’re happy to report: they’re back, they’re beautiful, and four of them are now hanging in our hallway gallery.

Mary Sampson Diuguid was a Lynchburg Art Club member for at least 40 years, from 1928 until her death in 1968. She chaired the Art Department of the Lynchburg Women’s Club, studied under Pierre Daura in Lynchburg and spent summers painting in Portugal and Mexico. Her work was exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the National Art Club Galleries in New York City, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. She was listed in Who’s Who in American Art for several years — and she gave away every painting she owned before she died.

A Month Worth Celebrating

Show Your Best wraps up Thank you to every artist who exhibited in this year’s Show Your Best — and to everyone who came out to celebrate with us. It was a beautiful show, and we’re proud of every piece on that wall.

Michael Dunaway: Artist Talk At our June 28 membership meeting, Show Your Best award recipient Michael Dunaway shared his artistic journey with the room. If you missed it, make a note for next time — these talks are always worth your afternoon.

Youth Art Club — First Meeting! Our brand-new monthly Art Club for students in grades 3–5 (ages 8–11) held its very first meeting on June 28. Sponsored by the 7 Hills Art Club and LAC, this one-hour monthly program meets on the last Sunday of each month.

We’re just getting started — and we’d love to see it grow. Know a young artist aged 8–11? Bring them along next month.
